I have been to Bentota or close by four times. It is an hour plus in taxi from the airport and you are near the beach. What I enjoyed most there was renting a scooter and trying to get lost. That was my goal each day. Take a turn off the main coastal highway and try to get lost. I loved cruising through small towns and rice fields, running into the ever present water monitor lizards crossing the highway. Great area to shop for inexpensive and/colorful clothing and jewelry. You can also get ayurvedic massages. The food is delicious and includes lots of fruits and hot spices. I highly recommend Sri Lanka.
